Understanding CEFR
CEFR is a six-level framework for describing what you can do in a language. A1 is the first step; C2 is the most advanced. You do not need to know your level before you start.
A1
Basic User
Beginner
Use simple greetings, introduce yourself and ask basic questions with help.
A2
Basic User
Elementary
Handle familiar everyday tasks and simple conversations about your life.
B1
Independent User
Intermediate
Manage common travel situations and describe experiences, plans and opinions.
B2
Independent User
Upper intermediate
Understand more complex texts and discuss ideas with greater fluency.
C1
Proficient User
Advanced
Use English flexibly for work or study and express detailed, nuanced ideas.
C2
Proficient User
Mastery
Understand demanding language and express yourself with precision and subtlety.
Your level is a starting point, not a label
The Placement Test estimates a starting level. EngetWorld uses that starting point to show your learning path. Complete the lessons and activities at your active level to open the next level. A later test does not silently move an established path.
